I think it goes without saying that I like the sound of a Subaru. A lot. But I do agree with Chris that it sounds wrong coming out of a Porsche

Wrong in a good way! Seriously, though I do get where he is coming from - the flat 6 did sound great and just like a mini 911. That being said, one of my neighbors bought a 718 Boxster S last month that I’ve heard coming and going a few times now and I think it sounds pretty damn good in person.

Please tell me this is an EG33 in a 914, because this appears to be an EG33 in a 914 and that would be amazeballs.

Yeah its common now, sort of. There is a company that converts them and maybe a kit. Just google subaru 914. Better than a 914-6.

Harris is on to something here. The world would be a better place if we never had to be subjected to the sound of Subaru exhaust. Subaru exhaust makes me miss the days of raspy fart cans on civics.

Remember, Subarus don’t sound as good as they used to. Pre-variable geometry turbos and massively unequal length headers = really nice characteristic Subaru rumble.
Newer engines not so much unfortunately, although if you stick unequal length headers on a BRZ they sound like they were meant to...

I mean, he’s not wrong... The last decent-sounding stock Subaru I can think of was the “Hawkeye” STI (or was it a bug-eye?).

I like it...fight me. Not the obnoxiously loud guys though (every obnoxiously loud guy is annoying though no matter the engine).

Indeed. There’s enough demand that several companies are making bolt-on UEL headers. I think that has to be one of the considerations in the decision to keep the EJ25 soldiering on in the STi.

The STi has been using the same motor all the way back to that generation, so they sound similar. I think Subaru has turned down the raucousness a bit through exhaust tuning over the next two generations, though.

To each his own. Bonkers 8 and 12 cylinder engines usually sound glorious when crazy loud.

Mmmm...yes those too. Who am I kidding, as long as the exhaust is done right damn near every engine can sound good. But I do love the rumble of a big NA V8 more than any small turbo engine. I really want to get a truck with Chevy’s 8.1 for my next vehicle.
